Think stylish common areas, clean rooms, and some even have private options. I&rsquo;ve stayed at Generator and loved the location (right by King&rsquo;s Cross).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expect to pay <strong>$20&ndash;$40 per night<\/strong> for a dorm bed, and maybe a bit more for a private room. Check Hostelworld or Hostelz to compare rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One underrated travel hack? There is strength in numbers! Travel with friends to book private hostel rooms. You get the best of both worlds, cheaper accommodations but still a &ldquo;private&rdquo; room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Budget Hotels<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Chains like <strong>Premier Inn<\/strong>, <strong>Travelodge<\/strong>, and <strong>easyHotel<\/strong> are all over the city and usually offer clean, basic rooms. If you just need a place to crash and shower, these are great. Take a picnic, read a book, people-watch. They&rsquo;re peaceful and beautiful and totally free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of my favorite things? Grabbing a cheap lunch from Tesco and hanging out in the sun like a local. (When the sun actually shows up, that is.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Walking Tours (Or Just Walk!)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are free walking tours every day (you just tip what you can), or you can wander on your own. The South Bank is one of my favorite places to walk&mdash;river views, street performers, pubs. It&rsquo;s a vibe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Eat Well Without Spending a Ton<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You don&rsquo;t have to blow your budget to eat <em>really<\/em> well in London. In fact, some of my favorite meals there cost less than a sad airport sandwich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Street Food Markets (AKA Heaven)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&rsquo;re into variety and big flavors, food markets are your best friend. A few musts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Borough Market<\/strong> &ndash; iconic, but not overpriced if you know where to look (get the grilled cheese or bust).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Camden Market<\/strong> &ndash; massive, chaotic, and delicious. Great for international bites.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Southbank Centre Food Market<\/strong> &ndash; right by the river, with a killer view and lots of options.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Brick Lane<\/strong> &ndash; especially on Sundays. And you don&rsquo;t need to buy a pricey travel pass either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Contactless All the Way<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your regular credit or debit card (or Apple\/Google Pay) works on buses, the Tube, trams&mdash;you name it. Tap in, tap out. Easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&rsquo;s a <strong>daily cap<\/strong>, so once you hit that, you ride free for the rest of the day. No need to stress about how much you&rsquo;re spending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Heads up:<\/em> Some cards charge foreign transaction fees, so check with your bank before you go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Buses = The Underrated MVP<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Flat fare of &pound;1.75 per ride. Even better, you get <strong>unlimited bus\/tram rides within an hour<\/strong> for that same price (called the Hopper fare).
